Garrett Mason in Concert - Lunenburg School for the Arts

Lunenburg School of the Arts presents
JUNO award winning artist
GARRETT MASON
Friday, October 26, 2018, 7:30 p.m.

Doors open at 7:00 p.m.

Restricted to 19+

Tickets $20.00, available in advance at:
Fisherman's Picnic General Store,
10 Pelham Street, Lunenburg, N.S.,
902-634-1932

Currently calling Lunenburg, N.S. home, Garrett Mason has been on the music scene for some 20 years and he is only 36 years old!
Garrett is typically linked to the blues but his style surpasses any genre, notes of country and rock compliment what is truly a unique and original sound. His technique is self-taught but that is not to say that he did not have many a great mentor along the way.
"It's a pleasure for our Lunenburg School of the Arts to present Garrett Mason in his first live solo concert in Lunenburg," says LSA's volunteer chair, the Honourable Wilfred P. Moore. "It promises to be a great evening with this very talented JUNO award winning artist."

Mr. Mason certainly takes his music more serious than he does himself. His guitar ‘licks’ are fascinating and packed with personality, his lyrics can switch from shallow to deep with each changing tune. What we can expect from Garrett is not often predictable but you can usually find him playing a sold-out show, dance-worthy guitar rhythms with a pleasant analog sound, and non-stop entertainment.
Some notable facts about the Truro raised boy; He has put out 2 albums 1 of which was Juno award winning, but that was 10 years ago. He never went away though, solely playing live music nearly 3 days a week, including every Tuesday night at Bearly’s House of Blues in Halifax. He has been mucking around in the studio again recently, which means we can expect some new tunes soon!
His father, Bluesman, Dutch Mason, of Lunenburg decent, would be the propelling force behind his musical career from the young age of 17.
All proceeds from this concert go to the Lunenburg School of the Arts Bursary Fund.

Community Sector Council of Nova Scotia

Monday, 11 March 2019 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM (ADT)

Lunenburg Library, 97 Kaulbach Street, Lunenburg, NS

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise™ program is a unique, participatory history lesson – developed in collaboration with Indigenous Elders, knowledge keepers and educators – that fosters truth, understanding, respect and reconciliation among Indigenous and non-indigenous peoples.

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise™ is a workshop that explores the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Blankets arranged on the floor represent land and participants are invited to step into the roles of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. The workshop helps people to understand how the colonization of this land impacts those who were here long before settlers arrived. It engages people's minds and hearts in understanding why the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples is often broken and how we can take action together.

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise™ will be led by Debbie Eisan, Community Planner and Resident Elder with the Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre in Halifax, NS.

Ticket Options:

  • Ticket $35+HST
  • Sponsorship/Pay It Forward A: $35+HST (If you would like to sponsor another potential registrant who may not be able to register due to financial constraints you may do so with this option.)

"Ramp It Up!" for SSWC

Ramp it Up for SSWC 2019

“Ramp It Up!” for Second Story Women’s Centre

“Ramp It Up!” for Second Story Women’s Centre Lunenburg School of the Arts is thrilled to announce the return of our biennial ‘Ramp It Up’ for Second Story Women’s Centre “SSWC” fundraising event and live auction, Thursday, May 9, 2019, 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $35.00 and includes a hand made bowl, soup and bread.

This event is in keeping with North America’s ‘empty bowl’ movement where craft folk make bowls and soup makers make soup. This is a lively fun event for a very good cause.  “The LSA Bowling Team has not been on strike but bowling at a very high average!” said bowling team captain, Douglas Bamford.

Clay for the bowls has been donated by Pottery Supply House of Oakville, Ontario; the soup by Martin and Sylvie from Lunenburg’s Salt Shaker Deli and local artists have been donating their skills to make and decorate the bowls of various shapes and sizes.

“All monies raised go directly to Second Story Women’s Centre”, said LSA Volunteer Chair, Wilfred Moore. At our 2017 “Ramp It Up” we were able to raise $4500, and another $525 for the bowls we sold after the event, for the Women’s Centre.

Tickets available at Second Story Women's Centre, 18 Dufferin St. and Lunenburg Bound Books, 139 Montague St. in Lunenburg.

Heritage 5km Muffin Run 2019

Muffins in May!!!  Due to the Bluenose Marathon being moved to the June weekend we are going to be eating muffins in May.  We are part of the Run Nova Scotia Race Series again this year.  It is a great opportunity to take part in a multi-sport weekend in the South Shore with a Savour and Cycle on Saturday in Mahone Bay (https://sweetridecycling.com/) and the 5k run or walk through Lunenburg, A World Heritage Site.

The 5k is now a fundraiser for the West Nova Fuels Soccer Club.  It allows kids in the Lunenburg County to participate in a great community program.

The route will take you through a stroll through town starting at the community centre.  Passing by the board walk an the Bluenose and many other working fishing vessels. Between breaths - Try to take in the sites of old buildings and salty air.  The route takes you around  the outside edge of town to see the Lunenburg Acadamy towering for all to see.  Back into town for a downhill sprint to the finish line. This event is always enjoyed by a large number of runners and walkers.

There is a race t-shirt for first 400 paid registrations.  We do not mail out the race t-shirt if you do not show up on race day.  Sizes are given out based on first come and first serve on race day.

The Awards and Reception:

Begins in Lunenburg Community Center, 10 minutes after the final runner finishes the race. It is here where the hundreds of homemade muffins made by the numerous volunteers are found that make this an even further special event.

Special Draw Prizes: Many draw prizes are donated by local merchants. We have also had the support of Oak Island Resort who has donated an overnight stay for two.  There will be a Friday and Saturday night Run & Ride Rate at Oak Island Resort for $129 with entertainment on the Saturday.

Race registration is $27.00, with discounts for RNS members and Lunenburg County residences.

Entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.  Race day registration cost is $32.00.
