Lunenburg Community Centre - Structural Roof Repairs

The Lunenburg Community Centre at 15 Green Street is about to undergo structural roof upgrades in response to the Town’s Municipal Climate Change Action Plan. The plan identified the need to reinforce the Community Centre’s lower roof for potential increase in snow loads. The work will be completed by Rikjak Construction of Lunenburg, and will take place February 1, 2019 through April 15, 2019.

The roof structure of the front addition of the building is being reinforced (i.e., the weight room, lobby, janitor’s room and washrooms). The contractor will be removing the ceiling covering, rafters’ reinforcement, and replacing the ceiling.

Access during construction:

  • There should be no cancellations in the gymnasium during this time. The work will be done in two sections: weight room/lobby/janitor’s room/male washroom, and then women’s washroom/far entrance. There will be one door for access (either the main door, or the far entrance door, plus the auditorium emergency exit door) and one washroom available. During this time, the washroom will become unisex. There will also be a porta-potty outside for usage.
  • During the first two weeks of February, demolition work will be performed. This will involve asbestos abatement in some of the older building materials. Portions of the Community Center will be contained and sealed off during this time. The Community Centre washrooms will not be available during this time. During the Lunenburg Farmers’ Market, the Lunenburg War Memorial Arena will be open for the public to use the washroom.
  • The weight room and fitness studio will be unavailable for until after April 15, 2019. Any weight room memberships purchased will be extended once the repairs are completed.
  • A reminder that all second floor Fitness Studio programs will be held in the Lunenburg Academy (room #101) on 97 Kaulbach Street, Lunenburg, during until after April 15, 2019

Thank you for your understanding during this construction period.
