Lunenburg wins Cultural Destination of the Year July 14, 2017 (Lunenburg, NS) – It was announced yesterday that the Town of Lunenburg has won ‘Cultural Destination of the Year’ at the influential 2017 Luxury Travel Guide Americas Awards. “The Town of Lunenburg is delighted to be recognized by the travel industry for the unique cultural destination that we are,” said Mayor Rachel Bailey.
“Thank you to the Lunenburg Board of Trade for their leadership on this initiative. We look forward to welcoming more visitors to discover Lunenburg’s cultural bounty.” “The Luxury Travel Guide Awards represent the pinnacle of hospitality achievement, championing the best in their respective fields; therefore, to come out on top is truly an achievement you should be proud of,” said Rocky Singh, Project Manager, Luxury Travel Guide, who added that there were an unprecedented number of nominees this year. This win, along with the Town’s recent #3 placement in USA Today’s Top Ten Destinations in Canada, significantly raises Lunenburg’s international profile. A jewel in Nova Scotia’s crown, Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Historic site, and receives many thousands of visitors every year to its colourful Old Town and working waterfront. Lunenburg is located close to an international airport and other transportation links, making it a convenient travel destination for world travelers. Visitors can enjoy Lunenburg’s history, beauty, wealth of arts activity, culinary excellence, and accessibility to outdoor pursuits. Cultural events like next month’s Tall Ships Regatta and Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival promise spectacular enjoyment for visitors and residents alike. A profile showcasing Lunenburg in the LTG Award Winner’s Guide will be distributed to 500,000 LTG subscribers, international airport lounges, cruise ships, hotels, travel agents and tour operators. This level of visibility is equivalent to hundreds of thousands of advertising dollars – a tangible boon for Lunenburg’s thriving tourism industry. The LTG Awards ceremony will take place later this year in London, England.
