Public Works - Changes to your Solid Waste Collection

Bulky Item Collection Program begins April 1, 2020

As of April 2020, the Town of Lunenburg will implement a year-round bi-weekly (every two weeks) bulky item collection program, and discontinue the spring/fall clean-up day special collections. This will allow you to dispose of bulky items more than just twice per year.

The new bulky item collection program allows businesses and residents to place ONE bulky item alongside your garbage on regular garbage & compostainer collection weeks. These collections are shown in green on the 2020 collection calendar.

A “bulky item” for example can be a chair, a sofa, a mattress, a washing machine, or a wooden pallet. It can also be ONE extra clear bag of garbage. Please keep in mind that the items which were unacceptable for special collection are still unacceptable for bulky item collection. See the below pdf chart (53 KB) for a fuller list of what items are and are not acceptable.

When in doubt, visit our website (www.explorelunenburg.ca/garbage-collection), consult the searchable Region 6 Solid Waste Management app “R6RECYCLES” (available for Android and Apple devices), or call Lunenburg Public Works at 902-634-8992.

Please always place solid waste out on your collection day prior to 6:00 a.m.
